This is serious. Experts have foreseen a tragic event in the near future.

It is not about aliens invading and destroying humanity. It’s about the collapse of the human population. Yes, it is a collapse.

Some might say that this is good for Mother Nature because less people, less carbon emission and less pollution. Well, the experts have different views.

What is going on?

The population of the world now is near to 8 billion and it is expected to grow. Until it is near 10 billion and it starts to fall. There is a reason for such a fall. The birth rate is declining.

Statistics show that there is a drop in birth rate from an average of 26 per 1000 total population in 1990 to 17.8 per 1000 total population in 2020. The declining is expected to continue in the future. When the birthrate is below 2.1, population will fall.

A couple having two kids will not maintain the population for there are possibility for childhood fatality. By 2100, that is the end of this century, the population of most countries is expected to be halved.

We are expecting to see a more elderly occupied society in the future.

Why is this happening?

Human mind in this modern era has altered especially in the first world country. In the old days, offspring is an asset to a family to secure their future. More members of the family, more work force labor, more income for sustainability.

However, owing to the propagation of feminism, high education, economic and social stress, most female are restrained from giving more birth unconsciously. We can already observed this from certain country e.g. Japan. Civilized people would consider more about the future of their children and calculate the cost of raising a kid. More children would give financial burden to the parents.

Besides, thanks to the advancement of science and technology, contraception is more likely to succeed nowadays. People now can choose to limit the amount of children they want by getting rid of any possibility of accidental conception. The birthrate in fact is decreasing.

What are the consequences?

It may be good for mother nature but it is not a good sign for our human society. The small quantity of youngster in the future raises the question like are they able to work and pay taxes to sustain old folks dominant society? Will there be possible for people to retire early in future? Who is going to take care of the elderly people while young people are busy to work? This fertility fall is going to reshape our future human society.

How to stop this?

To prevent or to embrace? That’s the question. Many world leaders has implement the immigrant policy to encourage people to migrate to their country to increase their population. But this does not solve the root of the world problem. Others country like China has modified the one-child policy to encourage and promote more birth. They must have been quite regret for the former policy. Will all these striving make a change to the fact we are heading? We will see.

Don’t be pessimistic. Perhaps science and technology we have today can reduce the amount of human labor need in future while sustaining the global economy. Man will have more time spend with family rather than work. There are so much out of our control, we don’t even sure are we still breathe tomorrow. All we can do is just to be aware about the potential risk and do our part to secure the future — make more babies.
